Jeremy Seewer was the main focus beneath the Wilvo Yamaha MXGP awning at the Grand Prix of Latvia, as both Shaun Simpson and Arnaud Tonus watched from the sidelines. The Latvian race, round seven of the FIM Motocross World Championship, took place in front of 31,000 fans and beneath sunny skies.
After qualifying eighth on Saturday, Jeremy Seewer was left with a respectable gate pick and felt positive heading into the motos. The first MXGP encounter, which fired into life at midday on Sunday, was an action-packed affair. Seewer was involved in countless tussles and fought off a handful of former winners at points. A minor bike issue forced him to settle for fourteenth at the chequered flag, unfortunately, but it was quite clear that he had the speed to battle inside of the top ten. With that in mind, morale was high entering the final race of the weekend.
Another great start left Jeremy Seewer inside of the top ten in moto two, but he wanted more. Passes were immediately made and he started to inch closer to the riders inside of the top five. The raw speed that he possessed was very positive. Eighth was the position that he eventually secured, following a strong outing, which helped him slot into the top ten in the overall classification. Thanks to the twenty points that were acquired on the day, he still runs ninth in the premier-class standings and is just twenty-four points from the rider in seventh.
The Wilvo Yamaha MXGP squad will now head to Teutschenthal, Germany, for the eighth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship. An update on Shaun Simpson and his status for the event will be released in due course.
Jeremy Seewer: “Another new track. I struggled a bit to find a set-up for this track yesterday, especially in the practice sessions, but I got it dialed pretty good for the qualifying race. The track today was different again. It was rough and gnarly, but I managed to have a pretty good feeling. Just a small issue in the first race with the bike, but I did my best to get some points and I am happy with that. I made some good passes and followed some of the fastest guys for some laps. I am happy to leave here with a really positive feeling on the bike.”
