| The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team edged closer to the end of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship today, as the sixteenth round of eighteen was run at the picturesque circuit of Pietramurata. The trio of riders beneath the awning entered Pietramurata in good spirits, following a successful outing at the previous stop in Belgium. That momentum served them well on Italian soil.
Every Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider has had some success at the Pietramurata circuit in the past. Paulin climbed onto the Italian podium just last season, for instance, and almost did it again today. A fourth in moto one was a solid start to the Grand Prix, especially considering he charged up from sixth, but the second moto was where he really shined. Paulin finished third and withstood pressure from the current championship leader throughout, which made the result even more impressive. A 4-3 scorecard left him in fourth overall on the day and helped him inch closer to the top five in the series standings.
| Paulin actually edged out his teammate to take fourth overall, as Jeremy Seewer finished fifth and was just two points down on his teammate in the overall classification. Seewer was third in the first moto and then made even more of an impression in moto two. Using the power within the YZ450FM, he got into the early lead and immediately made an attempt to sprint away. An untimely fall caused him to lose ground though, so he eventually ended that stint in fifth. That was the same position that he occupied in the overall results. Seewer still runs third in the championship standings, eighteen points behind the rider in second.
Arnaud Tonus, the third rider on Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP, continued his run of encouraging form. Tonus qualified second in time practice and showed similar speed in the opening premier-class moto, as he raced to fifth place. The second moto was tricky, as he continues to race himself back into shape, but he still salvaged eight valuable points in thirteenth place. Eighth overall was his final ranking at the Grand Prix of Trentino – that helped him jump up to seventeenth in the championship standings.
The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP trio will focus on the podium at round seventeen of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship, the Grand Prix of Trentino, which will be run on Wednesday.
| Gautier Paulin: “We are in good shape, with the bike and myself too. No regrets today, as I had really good rhythm. It was really tough to pass. I woke up a little bit too late in first moto to get back to third place. I came really close to Jeremy [Seewer] but it was too late to attack. In the second race I had quite a good start. I came close to the podium and I did everything I could to make the box, but unfortunately it did not work out. I still feel really good. It was a really good race. I know we cannot always make the podium, but the riding was strong and I leave here happy today. We still have two more times to enjoy Trentino, so there is still a lot to look forward to.”
Jeremy Seewer: “I threw away a podium or a really good result in the second moto when I crashed out of the lead, but overall it was a super solid day. I had good results with no big mistakes – it’s a fast track and everyone is running quite a similar pace. Fourth or fifth overall is not where I want to be, I want to be on the podium and battling up front, but still some solid points.”
Arnaud Tonus: “The first race was good, I felt good up front for a bit. At the moment I am missing some physical condition. I feel like when I have to be at such a big intensity at the start of the race, that’s when I have a big drop. I just miss some condition from not training for a while and now, with all the back-to-back races, it’s even harder for the body. It’s hard for everyone to have all these races in a row, but when you miss some training I think it’s even tougher. I have to take each race as it comes, try to recover as best I can and come back Wednesday hopeful.” |
