Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP moved closer to the completion of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship today, as the fifteenth round of the current term was run in the bottomless sand of Lommel. The event marked the end of the trio of races in Belgium, a gruelling run on the most physically demanding circuit in the world.

Jeremy Seewer had maintained a level of consistency on that rugged Lommel layout and put in yet another strong showing at the Grand Prix of Lommel today. The first moto was a fairly quiet affair, as he started in fourth and occupied that same position all of the way to the chequered flag. An exciting fight for the victory ensued early on in the second moto though, with Seewer right at the forefront. Third was the result that he secured at the end of that encounter and in the overall classification as well! Additionally, he is now sat third in the premier-class championship standings.

Gautier Paulin actually shadowed his teammate each time, as he ended up one just position behind in the first moto. That fifth place was incredibly impressive; he started on the cusp of the top fifteen, charged up to fifth and set some of the fastest lap times along the way. Paulin followed that up with a fourth in the second moto and occupied the same position in the overall classification. The thirty-four points gained at the Grand Prix of Lommel helped catapult him into sixth in the championship standings.

Arnaud Tonus enjoyed a positive outing in the sand and another big step forward in his bid to return to full strength. Finishing second in qualifying on Sunday morning provided some much-needed momentum, then he backed that up by battling inside of the top five in moto one. Eighth was where he eventually ended up in the first moto. Another opportunity to finish in the top five presented itself in the second encounter and he capitalised on that, finishing fifth for sixth overall on the day.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team will now turn their attention to the final three rounds of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship, which will be run at the old-school track of Pietramurata in Italy. The sixteenth round of the series will be run on November 01.

Jeremy Seewer: “It’s nice to be back on the podium after a tough week here in Lommel. It was really brutal out there with the rain, the weather, the track and three GPs in a row, Lommel, it was just really tricky. I am happy to be back on the podium with two solid motos and no big mistakes. I’m looking forward to the next three rounds in Arco di Trento, because this is more my type of track so there are still some positive races left.”

Gautier Paulin: “I feel strong. I missed the podium by one or two points. I am disappointed about this, but I am happy with my riding. I had an okay start in race one, but I hit the rear wheel of another rider and had to make my way back to the front. This was not easy, because I had a lot of roost on the goggles and stuff. In the second race, I started better with three or four strong corners to get close to the front. I stalled the bike and was passed by many riders and, in the end, it cost me the podium. I missed something a little bit today, but the feeling was there. The riding was strong.”

Arnaud Tonus: “Lommel is already a tough track. even before we had to come here and do three GPs in a row. It was super challenging mentally. Honestly, I was really tired after the first race. It was a real mental challenge to overcome. I am super happy to finish strong like I did. I made a couple of mistakes at the end and crashed, but it is what it is. I think everyone did! The rain made it super tough today.”
