The Internazionali d’Italia serve as the first test ahead of the FIM Motocross World Championship, and Andrea Bonacorsi immediately showed he is perfectly at ease on the Fantic XXF 450, securing third place in the final MX1 standings. In Montevarchi, all three Fantic Factory Racing MXGP riders finished inside the top 1.
A brilliant podium finish in Mantova, combined with fifth and third places in the motos in Montevarchi, earned Andrea Bonacorsi the bronze medal in the premier class of the Internazionali d’Italia—a promising start for the 21-year-old from Bergamo as he prepares for his first full MXGP season aboard the Fantic XXF 450.
In Montevarchi, also his teammates Brian Bogers and Glenn Coldenhoff—fresh off his victory at the Hawkstone International—lined up for round 2 of the Internazionali. The Italian hard-pack track with its updated layout and a tricky 180-degree first corner, posed an extra challenge at the start. In the opening moto, the Dutch duo of the Fantic Factory Racing MXGP team found themselves mid-pack in the early stages. Coldenhoff fought his way up to sixth place, right behind Bonacorsi. Bogers also battled within the top 10 for most of the race but struggled with arm pump in the closing laps, ultimately finishing in P11.
In the second moto, both “Bona” and “The Hoff” quickly settled into the top 10. Bonacorsi showcased his determination and speed, charging to an impressive third-place finish. Coldenhoff secured a solid fifth, while Bogers crossed the line in ninth—an outcome that placed all three Fantic XXF 450 riders inside the top 10 for the day.
While Bonacorsi’s full focus is already shifting to the MXGP season opener in Cordoba, Argentina, on the 1st and 2nd of March, Bogers and Coldenhoff will contest one more pre-season race at the Dutch MX Season Opener in Lierop this coming weekend.
Andrea Bonacorsi:
“It is nice to kick off the season with a medal at the Internazionali! We did two solid races—two good tests ahead of the new World Championship season. I feel really comfortable with the team and my Fantic; we have a great package, and I am very happy right now. We have already done a good job, and now I can’t wait to line up in Argentina for the MXGP season opener in two weeks.”
Glenn Coldenhoff:
“I felt quite good in the morning, but I didn’t get my start right in the first moto. That made things difficult, as the track was pretty one-lined – and I would say it was about 80% rocks. I know I can still improve in these conditions; it is not my strong point, but 6-5 results were okay. The second moto was definitely better—I was straight into the top 10 at the start, and my riding was better too. Now we have one more pre-season race in the sand at Lierop before heading to Argentina.”
Brian Bogers:
“We are getting there. I feel better and better with the bike every session, and that is the most important thing. I didn’t know Montevarchi before – and now I know it is somewhere near arm pump city (laughs). But we have to take the positives—it is good to be back racing, and I am enjoying it. I am having fun on the bike, and step by step, we will get there.”
